Introduction Blog

Hi! My name is Emely Chirino, I'm a senior in FSU majoring in Psychology and minoring in Political Science. My long-term career goal is to attend law school and eventually become a practicing attorney specializing in Family Law. Some of my hobbies include reading, traveling, listening to podcasts, and scrapbooking. I recently got into scrapbooking as a pastime and I find it very enjoyable as it allows me to express creativity and preserve memories.

In this day and age, I believe technology and education go hand-in-hand. I have been using technology in an educational setting practically throughout my entire education. Teachers have constantly used programs like Powerpoint and Prezi to present their lectures. I conduct online research on a daily basis to write papers or just to fact check. Universities require computer competency classes that teach students how to navigate the array of technological options available. I took CGS, which further expanded my understanding of how to use Microsoft programs, such as Word, Powerpoint, and Excel. I have also used softwares for statistics to draw charts and graphs.

To support my learning needs and goals, the main learning resource I utilize is Google. Whenever I have a question or concern, my immediate thoughts are to Google it. To stay updated on daily news, I receive notifications to my phone from AP News. I also think social media plays a huge factor in online learning. Often times, I first hear about any occurrences on sites like Twitter and Tik Tok, then I Google them if I want to further explore the topic. Offline, I will read books on topics I am interested in. Additionally, socializing with friends is another big learning resource for me.

  1. Hi Emely, I really like how you brought up the fact that many times you hear about occurrences through what many intend to use as entertainment purposes which in turn drives you to use another form of technology to dive deeper into the matter. You did a great job expressing your PLN in terms of technology as well as things not involved with technology, via books, scrapbooking, and friends.
